Why American democracy is like Travolta's fat head

Travolta explained to me that his fat head is populated by a teeming swarm of thetans, which continuously push its massive volumetric limits. Their growth and replication feeds the ever-increasing diameter of his melon. However, every inch that my friend’s gourd expands, yields another inch of room for a new generation of these little buggers — who begin this cycle anew. In this manner, John’s expanding head and thetan-swarm growth reinforce one another. This is called a positive feedback loop (it is also called schizophrenia). A positive feedback loop often results in an unstable equilibrium and runaway results. In my friend’s case, he has runaway head volume.

I think our American democracy can also be characterized by a positive feedback loop. Our status quo is continually renewed by mutual reinforcement between a functionally retarded voting populace and an incompetent puppet leadership. Every four years, hordes (well, dozens) of drooling, diabetic swine trudge to the polls to pull the lever for some guy whose name they recognize, who looks vaguely nice. This guy then spends four years ensuring that America remains a nation of flat-faced, blubbering lardbots. In America’s case, we have runaway ignorance.

This phenomenon is evidenced by the fact that, in a resounding referendum on the quagmire in Iraq, one of our most “independent” states just cast their nominations for Senators Hillary Clinton and John McCain, two of the biggest warmongers in modern politics. If you pit these two in a debate against one another, by the end, one or both of them will eventually pledge to bomb Candyland in an urgent effort to defuse the threat of Gumdrops of Mass Destruction.

An enlightened populace would presumably push to the forefront the candidacies of Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul, two gentlemen currently serving in the House of Representatives. Kucinich and Paul agree wholeheartedly with respect to foreign policy: they believe we should dissolve our imperial outposts, stop invading countries, abolish torture and close Guantanamo. They also agree that the civil liberties denied to the American people in the post-9/11 hysteria should be reaffirmed.

In a Kucinich/Paul race, we would enjoy boring debates regarding monetary policy and the nature of welfare. We would, of course, miss out on debate gems like “Which of you owns a gun?”

Why the fuck are we asking our Presidential candidates if they can handle the steel? Did we outsource Secret Service duties to Blackwater or something?

With either Kucinich or Paul in office, we would also no longer be trifled with nagging questions like “Is the leader of the fucking free world lying to my fucking face right now? Does he think I am this stupid? Is he right?”

Sounds nice, right?

Regardless of who won this enlightened race, America would win. Whichever horse we bet on would be granted the daunting task of pushing his respective brand of “wacky” socioeconomics through a stagnant congress. And if either Paul’s fiscal conservatism or Kucinich’s borderline socialism actually made it out into the real world and proved to be misguided, then the American middle class would shrink a touch, and the other guy would get to take a stab at it in four years.

Doesn’t this sound slightly little less foreboding than putting our kids in a trillion dollars of Chinese debt just so that they can go off to fight concurrent wars against the Iranians, the Pakistanis, and the Gingerbread Army?

Wake the fuck up, America.

I'd love to see you come out and endorse Paul and stare down Chuck Norris at Huckabee's side. hahaha

Nice blog...

"Diabetic," eh? I've been diabetic 34 years and I STILL have sex twice a day and can do British crossword puzzles. I could kick your ass physically, intellectually, spiritually, and every other way.

Ron Paul is a fraud and a demagogue. He's got more faces than Lon Chaney, but then any politician who doesn't have at least two faces is not equipped for the job. I like Dennis Kucinich--I've met him and I think he says a lot of good things, though I wish he wouldn't traffick with the flying saucer crowd. He hasn't a snowball's chance, of course.

That being said, these two Don Quixotes are still better than anyone else running. Even an acrocephalic like yourself can see that.

Thank you for this brilliant blog!

We need more people being vocal about the faux peace candidates running, and we need to all vote with our courageous hearts when we finally realize that we DO deserve peace, honesty, not-for-profit healthcare, and an evolved, conscientious, smart and thoughtful President! How refreshing that would be!

I have to say Mr. Walken, if indeed it is the real Christopher Walken who graces some of the best movies that come out of Hollywood. No, that wasn't a suck up, I think you are an outstanding actor. Balls of Fury definitely wasn't the highlight of your career, cute, but definitely not blockbuster material. The Dead Zone is one of my favs actually. But back to the point here..

Thank you for writing this column! It behooves me that these lemmings go and vote for the same crooks and liars every time! WHY WHY WHY? Well, I actually do know why, but it saddens me at the same time.

I know in my conscience that a vote for Ron Paul is a vote for individual liberty, freedom, and everything else that makes America the best place in the world to live.

The war mongers, the lobbyists, the Military Industrial Complex, the central bankers, all must go!

Peace! Let freedom ring!

The American people like their bullshit up front. That's why the White House has been populated by a parade of jackasses more interested in how Iraqis, Iranians, and others live than how the American people live. Americans like to hear catchy sound bites about spreading democracy and taking care of our children. The American people do need to wake up! I'm with Joshua, you should go out on the campaign trail with Ron Paul, shaking hands and kissing babies. Please note, I sid kissing babies, no eating them!!!!!

Mr. Walken --- Hey you live here in Manhattan with tons of Ron Paul supporters.

Why don't you come out to say hello at Ron Paul's NYC HQ in Manhattan, or even better, spend an hour or two out canvassing with us?

It'd really be a nice boost of morale to us supporters here in NYC trying to help spread the message about Ron Paul.

Way to go! Thanks for putting it so succinctly. So nice to hear that at least some people out there aren't blind and stupid. I'm all for Paul, but would certainly take Kucinich over any of the other candidates, even though I have problems with his economics ideals.

Thanks again!

Mr. Walken - I have always loved you - now i love you more, yes I feel Dr. Paul is our last hope - now I hope the rest of America agrees, at least we can say "I told you so" when Clinton or McCain or another CFR hopeful puts the nails in our coffin.

RESPECT!

Like many others who have posted here, I completely agree with all the points you have made. And if fiscal responsibility and international affairs were my primary concern regarding this election, I would surely vote for Dr. Paul. However, there are greater problems facing our country in the future. One, for instance, is boys kissing boys. Don’t get me wrong, I am no homophobe. This is evidenced by the fact that I routinely masturbate while watching sweet, honey-covered lesbians rub up against one another while standing in a baby pool in someone’s backyard. But I cannot stand by idly and watch while Dr. Paul allows one boy to kiss another boy in public. It brings up latent homoerotic urges in me that I find difficult to bottle up.
Also, I need a president who will overturn Roe v. Wade. Teenagers, single parents and rape victims must at least give birth to their babies. It is the only way we can teach the women in this country to avoid being teenagers, single, or getting raped. But I will meet you half way and allow these unwanted children to be placed in the baby-blackhole that is your mouth.
Thus, much like the rest of the country, I will ignore all other issues and vote for Huckabee based solely on the two points I have raised.

Ain't it the truth, and from the keyboard of one of my Favorite actors.

Is it not a sad day when you have to defend one of the most common sense documents ever written against a nation of tards? Most Americans can barely read much less understand the Constitution.

My opinion is when these Paul and Kucinich get royally screwed in the media and the primaries they should join forces like the wonder twins and run as Libertarians. Even better they should make like Richard Pryor in Brewter's Millions and run collectively as "None of the Above". I think in a fair fight they would trounce the Demon-crats and the Reprobate-licans.

I think it is safe to say that if Cicero and Socrates were running today they would do no better than Paul and Kucinich. Most of the population that votes needs to be enlightened and informed to be effective in an election. Most people that vote are too bored, too tired and too busy trying to survive to meet this basic test of civic mindedness. I think that is why Bush won **2** consecutive elections. It is very sad really. You see the incoming train heading straight for the precipice and nobody cares.

I think it's about time someone with any celebrity status made a reasonable point about politics. Better yet, it's Christopher Walken, who obviously an intelligent and witty human being who doesn't do drugs and lock himself in his bathroom with his two kids, adopt children he could never hope to actually give a normal life, or get drunk and curse and moan about Jews.

I'm sick of the sons of a bitches who go around with their cheesy smiles and bullshit politics that are only designed to get more votes and not actually solve any problems. By "America needs change" I never thought we meant we needed a bunch of sodding idiots go around making promises that they couldn't possibly keep. Thank God for Ron Paul who might actually be able to do something decent with this nation instead of piss off all the intelligent people.

1/15/2008 5:14 PM

Aaron Acker:

Thanks Christopher for sharing your views with us. Your anger towards the general populous is understandable, but i think you should look into the matter of the electronic voting machines being the potential source for the election results for the past week.

independent polls far and wide show kucinich and paul doing much better than the major media's polls. not only that, from all of the positive energy and determination for election that i have observed(especially with regards to the two candidates mentioned), i simply do not believe the results.

sure, there are still plenty of blind sheep who dont have a fucking clue about the candidate they are voting for, what liberty and freedom actually mean, or what our country was founded upon, but among those sheep are many newly awakened brothers and sisters that are sick and fucking tired of the disgusting mess they have been born into, and hope to do something to try to get us back on the road of being a country for the people and by the people.

so i point you in this direction Chris, and maybe our voices regarding this obscene betrayal of our rights will finally be exposed and we can, just maybe, after so many decades, have a president we can trust.

The fact that Hillary , McCain lead in any state poll, is confirmation of Americas ignorance of the facts. Wake the fuck up isn't going to cut it. America has seen this happening slowly, inch by inch for 50 years. Einstein defined Insanity as "doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result". America doesn't look any less insane this time around. Personally I think American wont wake up as a whole until it's far too late. Wake the fuck up is too late -- "Get the fuck out" is a better idea...

I enjoy thoroughly how you have essentially taken the words right out of my mouth. This country reminds me of a wonderful movie called Idiocracy. That movie portrays how not only many of us here in America but many across the globe view us. It's dispicable, and unless this kainotophobic government changes it's ways we will always be the laughing stock of the world.

Christopher Walken you are the man! I just developed a new level of respect for you.

I think you should call up Howard Stern, he's been in favor of Paul but still uninformed on other issues about him.
Ya'll could have a back and forth about Paul and get his 2 million listeners on the right track. Thats an idea!

I am finally proud to be one of the "kooks" that support Dr. Paul. After being apathetic for more years than I want to admit, I finally read, studied and found someone a number of years ago that actually "walked the walk" and someone I could support and believe in. Even the prolateriat "main stream" press can't stop the growth of the message. Thanks, Dr. Ron Paul, keep up the good work, shooting straight from the high ground of truth and liberty....even for those who don't seem to "get the message". It's truly the start of a Revolution of thought that cannot be stopped.

"America"? Is that really you. I am so sorry. I hate myself. But you asked for it. You are so dumb and fat. I bet you can't see your genitals unless you bend over really far and I bet that hurts your neck a little so you don't do it that much.

On the mark! Americans are slow to awaken yet, once aroused, the slow tidal wave toward change begins. This is the magic of the Paul and (to a lessor degree) Kucinich campaigns. Until now, the RepubliCrats incestuous DC marriage of convenience has been unexposed. No longer...let the change begin!

Chemicalman:

Great post Mr. Walken! Your blunt assesment of the current status of our country is pretty much right on.
The sad thing is that a lot of people do not want to be awoken. They will continue to live with blinders on
and in doing so they will continue to vote people into office that will make the majority of the population
more poor and more dependant on government. If the government threatened to take away Oprah, American
Idol or Dancing with the Stars then the sheep might actually wake up.

Take care.

1/14/2008 2:49 PM

Joe:

TO: Chet the diabetic
To say the Ron Paul has "...more faces than Lon Cheney..." presumes the point that you have actually done research on what Dr. Paul has voted, said he would vote and will vote. Chet, admit it. You don't know shit about him other than what Fox New tells you. You and all the other "sheople" need to wake up. But I would say voting for someone you shook hands with is a good idea.

Citizen in Mpls MN:

Mr. Walken,

I'm wide awake sir. I haven't had more then 4 hours of nightly sleep for over a year as I spend a great deal of time trying to wake the American People up. 8 hours of work, 4 hours with my kids (weekdays, more on weekends), 8 hours working on waking people up and promoting Ron Paul, 4 hours of sleep. Rinse, repeat. That's been my life for a year. And you know what? I am not tired, and I am not going to get tired because I am fighting as hard as I can for my children and everybody else's children.

Thank you for saying what needs to be said. You sir, are an Ally of The United States and it shall be written in history that way.

I implore you to go as public as you can with your opinions as it will be helpful to the cause of Freedom. Please continue to help us save our country and our future.

Thank you once again.

There is NO DOUBT that Americans are not as stupid as you have laid out. Don't get me wrong, the media keeps feeding us ignorance, and you are right about the feedback loop, but the fact that they don't count our votes weighs much more heavily than their success at manipulating the media.
