Thanks to all my fans who have been defending me both here and on GR’s blog. Some harsh and spiteful words were said, but now it’s over. Gordon’ right, the healing has to take place. Wounds need to be licked.

As I have stated in a recent interview with underground video magazine TMZ, I did a little soul-searching (see: Googling). I searched the web and other blogs, and from what little I could find on myself (a blurb in a Louisville alternative weekly, some other two-sentence reviews of some small shows I’ve done recently), I didn’t like. I’ll be honest: I sound like an insufferable douchebag who has sold out. Really.
This might explain where all my hipster fans went. I used to peer out into the (very small) crowds and see nothing but unpretentious faces sipping coffee. Now I just see bubbly girls, and not the kind I can date and not go to jail for. Things haven’t been looking up for me: I’ve been making too much money (over $9.00 an hour) lately. I think my hipster fans saw through this and said, “Enough. We’d rather listen to Cat Power and Rilo Kiley.” Two groups who eschew publicity, money and photographers.
I’m not as indie as I once was. But to hell with labels. What is “indie” anyway? I don’t want to be labeled as anything. I just want to be a “humanitarian,” the way starving artists Wilco are humanitarians. Those guys make so little money, they are homeless like 2/3 of the year. They inspire me.
You know who else inspires me? Prince. He is definitely NOT an insufferable douchebag. I have a lot to learn.

GR:
Thanks for coming to my defense Charvella.
I agree that it was very mature of me to apologize and accept partial responsibility even though John Mayer started the fight.
I also agree that he was rude and unnecessarily harsh towards me.
Thanks for being a true Gordon Ramsay fan!

GR, dream on about coming to your defense. You've obviously been drinking too much wine instead of cooking with it!!!! John, keep up the good work and see ya on the cruise!!!
12/6/2007 8:06 PMJessica:
if he is so talentless why is he compared to eric clapton and jimi hendrix?
12/7/2007 4:29 AMmindfkr:
Ok, wait just a minute there. To call John Mayer a talentless bastard is just blasphemous.

There is only one to do, start listening to Stockhausen on a daily basis, give all your money away(secretly), live as a homeless man for 2-3 years, the first year is the learning process, then you will make cool again. The hipsters will return when your money leaves.
p.s.
12/11/2007 9:19 PMsell-outs can be cool if they sell-out in a new way never done before. You haven't done this.
Charvella:
As a fan of yours for years, I understood your humor in the comebacks towards Gordon. What I can't understand is why he would nearly no fault when he started the fight. Secondly, everyone calling you childish when you were just humorously playing along throwing back at him. Lastly, why as harsh and rude much less unprofessional as he did criticize someone's music? If you don't like don't listen. Just like his food... don't like don't eat!!!

I think John Mayer tries to be as honest with himself as he can. I also think he's made very good points in terms of how his original "hipster" fan base has now shifted into screaming girls who have necessarily more interest in his looks than his music.
I feel Nick's response has provided some anecdotal solutions—although I highly doubt the change in lifestyle. His last point, however, may prove somewhat valuable.
Keep up the good work!
