As Democrats, Hillary and I are used to having elections stolen. But the Obama camp has stolen our identities as well. Hillary was supposed to be concentrating on her Republican opponent, dismissing the delegate pouching of those clinging to their futile hopes of backdooring their way to the nomination, and most of all distancing herself from a “family member” who undermined her candidacy with inappropriate remarks to the National Press Club.
That “family member” should have been me. Making vaguely racist comments, going against the expressed wishes of the candidate, becoming an albatross to the campaign, having an affair that leads five news cycles (Sure, Reverend Wright hasn’t had one…..yet, but even a blind guy in politics falls into random pussy now and then) that has Bill Clinton written all over it. Now what role am I supposed to have? The supportive spouse? Please.
On Sunday, in a church in North Carolina, I tried another role when I said this:
"You know, we get close to these elections, the tensions are up, the temperature is up. We're all liable to say something we shouldn't say. We're all feeling things we shouldn't feel. So it is a very good thing to be here."
Bill Clinton? Man of reason? It’s not a role I accept easily, but it may be the only one I have left.
