I just learned from Valleywag that Fake Jobso has been unmasked. Personally I think this Daniel Lyons character has taught us all a lot about identity theft (of course none of this fake blog business would have happened in the first place if people had adopted MS Passport).
With their weak anti-piracy commitment, all OS X users could soon develop fake bloggers to parody their existences.
For instance the real Barry Chapwater from Appleton, Wisconsin might write on his critically acclaimed blog I bleed green and yellow WOO!:
“I like the Packers and cheese.”
But Fake Barry would blog:
“I just spent my family’s savings on a first generation iPhone because I was brainwashed into thinking I needed it. Then it broke. Why do they call the different models generations? Personifying electronics is retarded. Now I can’t afford my wife’s butt surgery.”
Or maybe Real Barry would write that stuff about Apple. The point is no one knows.
Nevertheless, the fact that the writer for Fake Jobso could go undetected for more than two years (and he had quite a few not-so-pleasant things to say about me, I might add — Beastmaster?) makes me a little concerned. Identity should never be open-source.
