Did I veto child health care? I guess so. I mean, look, honestly, there were policy reasons for my decision, chief among them the fact that playoff baseball was getting underway, and there’s supposedly a new Britney Spears sex tape, and some of the new shows on TV are pretty funny, especially that one “Chuck,” where a guy is a doofus and a spy all rolled into one. That’s the policy reason: I can’t concentrate! Now, if you want to look at the nuts and bolts of the bill, then you should go to a hardware store. Ha ha. That’s one of my father’s favorite jokes, except when he tells it he pulls down his pants at the end and points to his nuts. Mostly this happens on fishing trips.
But back to the bill. I vetoed it because the bill would give health care for kids whose families make up to $83,000. That’s lots of money, and those people don’t seem poor to me. I was talking to Cheney the other day, and he told me about a week where his various business interests and investments only paid him about $75,000. Cheney’s not poor, and eighty-three is more than seventy-five, last time I checked. One of the assistants here said that the bill meant $83,000 a year, but that’s just ridiculous. It has to be a week, right?
