I’m sure everyone in America is discussing the latest terrorist bombing in Iraq (what other news items could possibly take precedence over the war in Iraq?) If you read a headline like CNN’s, “24 die in Iraq peace meeting blast,” you might find it kind of ironic. “24 dead…at a meeting for peace! Only in Iraq,” you might say to yourself, or possibly out loud to people who weren’t listening.
Well, guess what, you clever shit, it’s not ironic at all. Those 24 casualties happen to represent the least amount of violence at any meeting in Iraq to date. And I’m not just talking about high level government meetings. That includes PTA meetings, corporate board meetings, Star Trek conventions, book clubs, half-time locker-room pep talks, etc. This literally was the most peaceful meeting we’ve had so far. So don’t belittle our significant accomplishments by calling this last terrorist bombing all “ironic.”
We’re making steady progress, and while we aren’t on yet on the level of America’s “Meeting-Casualty Average” (MCA), which I can only assume is no lower than 4, we’ll get there soon. And our Iraqi soldiers, when not AWOL or actively fighting against the state, are doing everything they can. Someday, people in Iraq will be able to meet in groups larger than three people without being attacked by terrorists. Until then, just shut it.
