Okay so there’s this new thing now, right, like politicians want to try to tap in to the viral market, man, like the viral videos like YouTube, okay. So, for example, this guy Mike Gravel made this film right, you can watch it here:

It reminded me a little of the old Jacques Feyder films, you know which ones I mean, from his early period, not the later — anyway, right, so Gravel just stares at you, man, just STARES. I mean he just STARES at you, like right at you man. So Gravel, he stares at you and first you’re like, okay, this is a total Alain Resnais ripoff, right, but maybe, MAYBE it’s more like an homage, man, but THEN he moves man, and when he moves it comes RIGHT AT YOU. And he picks up this rock, man, this big-fucking-igneous-mother-fucking-formed-by-a-volcano-and-cooled-over-a-million-fucking-years, ROCK. And he picks it up and just throws this thing and it’s almost like something straight out of Vadim, but the aesthetic and the framing is a little more contemporary but still classic right, like, still fucking classic, you know? It’s like old and it’s new but it’s cool, right, it’s cool okay? So the rock splashes and Gravel just fucking walks off like he’s Steve fucking McQueen and he’s got somewhere to be.

Right, so it’s pretty cool, but it could be a lot cooler. First of all, the staring thing man, it works, right, but we’ve got to see what he’s staring at. I mean so the stare is classic, but maybe the camera pulls back, okay, YES YES. So the camera pulls back, and he’s got a gun in his hand, and it’s pointed at this one black dude, who’s like, clearly a pretty tough motherfucker but these two dudes run in different circles, so some shit went down to end them up in this spot right, but we don’t know what yet. And then, as the camera pulls back we start to hear the black dude maybe breathing a little nervous, like this is a tough situation right, but this dude’s cool, he’s trying to get it under control, and he’s probably going to, you know, he’s probably got this fucker under control, he just needs to fix this situation. And then we get a couple lines here, right, cause there is some GRAVITY between these motherfuckers.

Black dude: So what’s it gonna be?

Gravel: You tell me.

Black dude: Lady’s choice.

Gravel: Funny. (beat) So what’s it gonna be?

Then the black dude gives us a recap, right, like, he runs the situation down and uses all kinds of crazy slang terms for guns and people that have been killed earlier. It’s not that important what he says except that it let’s you know a little bit about what happened earlier in the story. Okay so then after he’s done with his quick slangy monologue, Gravel gives him: “You still didn’t answer the question” and pulls the hammer back on the gun — just like nice and cool style — but the black dude just smiles and says, “motherfucker”.

Then you could throw the rock and it’d be POWERFUL man.
