Protesters perplexed by papaya plunder

I don’t mean to be a Nagging Nader to my fellow social justice enthusiasts at Greenpeace, but their latest produce protest in Thailand was a bit of a dud:

The environmental group dumped the papayas in front of the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry yesterday to make its objection to the lifting of the ban loud and clear to the government. Passers-by took matters, and tonnes of papayas dumped by Greenpeace, into their own hands, and ran off.

Can you imagine Greenpeace dumping hundreds of iPods on the steps of an Apple computer store counting on passers-by to respond: “Oooh, wow, a perfectly functional new iPod. But wait. Best to leave it be, for it might have been manufactured using Brominated flame retardants.”

For goodness sakes, if you’re going to protest by dumping genetically modified food, use GMO brussels sprouts. And if you are going to protest MP3 players, use the Zune. But don’t waste valuable corporation-fighting time listening to music. You might as well be working for Monsanto if you try to win the hearts and minds of consumers by telling them that strawberries, ice-cream or papayas are off-limits.

Gregg Busch:

I live next door to Ralph Nader. He lives in a neighborhood of multi million dollar homes with his sister. He has a rat infested back yard that many nieghbors in the community have asked him to resolve. He has an unkept yard that has over 10 rat holes where the rats live. He and his sister will only have a company come out and put down poisin. They need to dig up the yard and kill the rats and then pour concrete over the dirt so the rats can not come back and harbor. All the neighbors have asked him to take care of this issue and he will not spend the money. Why would a person running for president not take care of this issue at 2112 Bancroft Place NW in Kalorama Washington DC 20008. Anyone can come down the alleyway and see for themselves. Even the exterminator has told the Naders that the rats are a health hazard and they need to dig up the yard and pour the concrete down. Please Ralph help us out here. Your house is the problem with the infestation of rats. HELP!!!!!!!
