Now I’m not saying Don Shula has nothing to live for anymore, but Don Shula kind of has nothing to live for anymore. The really sad thing is that going undefeated really isn’t that difficult. Sorry Don, but it’s true. All you have to do is commit yourself to never losing. At anything. Ever.
Now, I’m not saying losing is the worst thing in the world, because it’s not. In fact, I think it is a necessary part of being human. However, no one should have to lose to that wiener Peyton Manning, and when I did in last year’s playoffs, something in me changed. I was completely disoriented for months. I couldn’t remember where I parked my car, I was calling to make reservations at restaurants. The taste of supermodel sweat did not taste as sweet.
Then, one day I was waiting to pay for groceries, and snapped out of it. “Tom Brady does not wait in line,” I thought to myself. I saw an open lane and went for it. Then when I was driving home I saw some kids playing basketball and thought I’d give them a thrill and join in. I had a triple-double and won a pair of sneakers off one of those chumps.
What I’m trying to say is if you dominate in all aspects of your life, when it really counts, you’ll come out on top. For you (and Peyton), it probably requires a lot of work. For me, it just happens.
